The University of the Visayas (UV) Baby Lancers took care of business and caught up with the league-leading Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) Magis Eagles as they defeated the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars, 85-71, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. juniors basketball tournament yesterday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The cat-and-mouse game continues between the two league powerhouse squads UV tied SHS-AdC at top with similar 12-1 (win-loss) records.
Five players reached twin digits for the Baby Lancers led by the 18 of Ron Dennison, the 12 of Matthew Oche, the 11 apiece of Nelson Peralta and Paul Desiderio and the 10 of Reeve Ugsang. USJ-R’s stand was led by the 29 of Ricky Cuyos. USJ-R fell to 4-9.
The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers also registered their eighth win against four losses after they demolished the Don Bosco Greywolves, 84-64.
Rommel Diapera was his usual lethal self as he scored 29 points while Jason Cando supplemented their top gun’s production with 18 markers. Winston Bolivar was also efficient with 15 points.
The Cebu Institute of Technology-University (CIT-U) evened out their record at 6-6 after they got past the University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters, 85-77. Mark Kong paced the winning squad with 20.
