Naia network glitch causes flight delays

MANILA, Philippines–A glitch in the communications network of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) in Parañaque City affected operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Naia) on Tuesday, delaying international flights.

The computerized check-in system at the Naia Terminal 1 broke down past 3 p.m. on Tuesday, prompting airline firms to go manual. However, only international flights were delayed.

Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta said that operations at the airport went back to normal at 3 a.m. on Wednesday after the computerized check-in system was restored.

Basanta said that according to the PLDT, it encountered a network glitch on Tuesday afternoon in the Tambo, Parañaque City line. He added that aside from check-in counters, phone lines and even banks at the airport also went off-line after PLDT’s fiber optic cables in Tambo were affected by an excavation in the area.
