1 dead, 14 hurt in Batangas road mishap

SAN PEDRO CITY—A passenger was killed while 14 other people were injured after a bus rammed into a passenger jeepney in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, early on Tuesday.

Supt. Palaleo Addag, Sto. Tomas police chief, said the accident involving a bus and a jeepney took place past 5 a.m. along Maharlika Highway in Barangay San Pedro.

He said both vehicles were bound for Manila when a bus of Raymond Transportation tried to overtake another truck.

“(The bus driver) must have lost control of the vehicle and hit the passenger jeepney,” Addag said.

The victims, all passengers of the jeepney, were rushed to St. Francis Cabrini hospital in the town. One of them, whose identity the police have yet to disclose, died past 12 noon.

Addag said they already have in their custody the bus driver who would undergo an investigation for possible charges.
