CONSTRUCTION workers unearthed on Thursday afternoon a World War II bomb inside the decades-old home of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
A rusty 155-millimeter projectile was dug up by workers while installing water pipes in front of the Directorate for Police Community Relations office around 1:30 p.m.
Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP Logistics Support Service chief, said it was excavated while there was an ongoing flood-control project inside the four-hectare compound.
The two-foot bomb weighing 30 kilos could still explode if it would be “initiated with friction heat and other elements,” according to Sindac.
“This is not the first time a bomb was excavated here. Camp Crame is a very old camp and we expect once in a while na kapag mayroong excavation na ganito, may mahuhukay pang mga natitirang bomba,” he said.
He said the World War II-era bomb would be transported and detonated in Crow Valley Range in Capas, Tarlac. AC
