Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is set to award on Wednesday (Thursday morning in Manila) Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, chief government negotiator for the peace process with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), with her eponymous Hillary Rodham Clinton Award for Advancing Women in Peace and Security.

“We would like to honor you for your indefatigable work to bring about peace in the Philippines and for your historic role as the first female chief negotiator to sign a comprehensive peace agreement,” said Ambassador Melanne Verveer.

Verveer, executive director of the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, reportedly wrote Ferrer in February and informed the government negotiator that was chosen to receive the award.
