No formal offer from LP for Grace Poe to be Roxas VP

SENATOR Grace Poe on Tuesday said the Liberal Party (LP) had not personally asked her to be Interior Secretary   Mar Roxas’ running mate in 2016.

“There had been no formal offer from them,” Poe said in a text message on Tuesday when asked about reports that the LP has been courting her to become Roxas’ vice presidential candidate.

Roxas has not made any public pronouncements yet about his plans in 2016 though Senate President Franklin Drilon, LP’s vice chairman, said the Interior Secretary has already expressed interest “internally” to be the party’s standard-bearer.

Asked then if there had been “informal” offers or feelers from the LP, Poe said: “It’s hard to interpret feelers that are not direct to the point.”

Pressed if there were “feelers” from Roxas’ group, she said: “No feelers or hints about an offer from LP member.”

Poe also declined to comment if she would consider running with Roxas.

“I cannot comment on the possibilities because Secretary Mar himself has not publicly declared his intentions,” she said.

Poe herself has not made any public pronouncements about her plans in 2016 despite her impressive poll ratings.

In fact, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted in March showed her closing in on Vice President Jejomar Binay, who remained the voters’ top choice for president in 2016.

Poe ranked second in the survey with 31 percent or just five-percentage point away from Binay’s 36 percent.
