200 passengers stranded in various ports, says Coast Guard

MANILA, Philippines – Some 200 passengers were stranded in various ports Saturday amid the onslaught of Typhoon “Quiel” (international codename: Nalgae), particularly in Northern Luzon, the Philippine Coast Guard said.

Lieutenant Commander Algier Ricafrente, PCG spokesman, said 73 were in Lucena, 70 in Mamburao, 12 in Puerto Real, and 45 in Appari.

Meanwhile, eight shipping vessels and 17 motorized bancas were also stranded due to bad weather.
