40 families in Muntinlupa try to beat flood, evacuate voluntarily
MANILA, Philippines – Some 40 families voluntarily left their homes in Muntinlupa City in anticipation of possible flooding as Typhoon “Quiel” (international codename: Nalgae) continues to dump rain across Luzon.
Although no floods were reported as of Saturday afternoon in Muntinlupa City, Chief Inspector Jenny Tecson, Southern Police District spokesman, said that 40 families were voluntarily evacuated from the villages of Poblacion and Tunasan.
She said that the families residing in Barangay Tunasan have previously been affected by floods during past storms.
“Bilang paghahanda na rin po, mas maganda yung kahit papaano kung sakaling tumaas ang tubig nasa mabuti na po silang kalagayan [It’s part of the preparation. It’s better so that when the waters rise, they are already in a better place],” Tecson said.
The families have temporarily taken shelter at the Muntinlupa Elementary School, said Tecson.
