Policeman kills 1, wounds 2 in Zamboanga

zamboanga-city-mapZAMBOANGA CITY – A policeman went on rampage at the house of a government human rights worker here and killed one person while wounding two others, the police said.

PO2 Jerry Jaud, assigned to the Divisoria police station here, reportedly shot and killed Carlo Quiboyen at the victim’s house Monday night, said city police chief Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro.

According to Casimiro, prior to the shooting Jaud had an altercation with Quiboyen, whose father works at the Western Mindanao office of the Commission of Human Rights.

It was not immediately known what Jaud and Quiboyen had argued about.

After shooting Carlo, the father of the victim, Raul, reportedly tried to pacify Jaud but the policeman also shot the elder Quiboyen.

Jaud allegedly continued firing his gun and hit a relative of the Quiboyens identified as Cecilia.

Quiboyen was declared dead on arrival at the Zamboanga City Medical Center while Raul and Cecilia were treated at another hospital.

Monday’s incident was the second involving a law enforcer in the western Mindanao since last month.

On March 4, P02 Mahidi Samiddin of Jolo, Sulu, shot dead Sharia court judge Ibnohajar Puntukan, 63, in Barangay San Raymundo.

The police said the Jolo incident was triggered by a “rido.”

Samiddin remains at large.
