A band of robbers in Quezon City took P1 million in cash from two company employees who had just withdrawn the money from a bank for their firm Monday afternoon.
The robbers abandoned the vehicle they first used to intercept their target and used two other vehicles for their getaway, police said.
Jeffrey Vicente and driver Bonifacio Orbon, both employees at Harvester Corporate Center, were on their way back to their Cubao office around 2:20 p.m. when their company vehicle was blocked by a white Toyota Corolla (TAW-472) on Aurora Boulevard near Harvard Street in Barangay E. Rodriguez.
Two men armed with pistols got off the Corolla and held the employees at gunpoint, taking the bag containing the cash, the company’s five passbooks, the keys for the company vehicle (a Toyota Vios), Vicente’s company ID and his cell phone.
Instead of returning to the Corolla, the robbers split up and got into two other vehicles driven by two cohorts to escape, according to Cubao police station commander Supt. Marlou Martinez.
Vicente, the company nurse, had just withdrawn P1 million from a China Bank branch at the corner of Aurora and 15th Avenue. Harvester, a company engaged in fertilizer distribution, holds office on P. Tuazon also in Cubao, Martinez said.
