Members of the Enforcement Environment team apprehended last week 152 public utility jeepneys and buses for failing to put trash bins inside their vehicles that ply within Mandaue City.
Placido Jerusalem, head of the Enforcement Environment team, said the drivers were issued citations and would be fined P500.
The PUJ’s, minibuses and Ceres buses were plying in the major thoroughfares in the city.
Mayor Jonas Cortes instructed Jerusalem to intensify the enforcement of the city ordinance number 10-2006-372, which requires the public vehicles to have garbage receptacles to maintain the cleanliness of the city.
The team, together with barangay tanods, apprehended some 32 jeepneys along barangay Ibabao-Estancia. The 95 other public vehicles were caught along Plaridel Street, barangay Umapad. Of the 95 vehicles, 23 were public buses.
Last Wednesday, 24 PUJs and a Ceres bus were also apprehended along the national highway in barangay Basak, Mandaue City.
The owners of the apprehended vehicles will be given 72 hours to pay their P500 fine in the City Treasurer’s Office. Reporter Jucell Marie P. Cuyos
