Retired prosecutor gunned down in Samar

CATARMAN, Northern Samar—A retired prosecutor was shot dead inside his house in Barangay Zone 2, University town in this capital town, about 5:30 a.m. on Monday.

Harold Acompaniado, 66, was drinking coffee in his porch when a lone gunman shot him, said Supt. Alberto Garcia, Catarman police chief.

Garcia said that based on accounts of witnesses, the gunman was across the street, about two to three meters away from where the victim was sitting.

Acompaniado suffered gunshot wounds in the head and chest.

The police have yet to determine the motive in the killing.

Acompaniado was assistant provincial prosecutor assigned in the Regional Trial Court in Laoang town.

He returned to private practice when he retired from public service in 2013.
