Zamboanga City police rules out terror angle in latest bomb blast

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Local police said terrorists were not involved in the latest bombing incident in the city, which left three people injured.

“The blast was caused by (an improvised explosive device) placed on an abandoned Navarra vehicle,” Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro, the city police director, said.

He said the IED was fashioned out of ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and other incendiary devices.

Casimiro, however, said it was not a terror attack.

A child and two elderly women were hurt when an improvised explosive went off in Barangay Ayala, Zamboanga City just a few meters away from the police station around 7:45 p.m. Friday.

Casimiro identified the three blast victims as Marvin Esperat, 14; Ofelia Eusebio, 77; and Magdalena Araneta, 61.
