3 hurt in blast near police station in Zamboanga City

Two women and a male minor were injured when an explosion of a still unknown origin occurred near a police station in Zamboanga City Friday evening, police said.

The explosion occurred along the highway near Police Station 9 in Brgy. Ayala, Superintendent Ariel Huesca, commander of the city police’s Public Safety Company, said in a text message.

Investigation is still ongoing to determine what caused the blast, Huesca said.

Police and military authorities are conducting a deep probe into the explosion, according to an advisory issued by the city government.

Mayor Beng Climaco is currently at the Zamboanga City Medical Center CMC to help attend to the victims’ needs, it said.

The mayor assured that authorities remain in control of the situation, and urged people in the city to remain “vigilant but calm.”

Climaco also called on residents to report the presence of suspicious items, persons, or activities, and to refrain from forwarding unverified text messages.
