DepEd moves 2015 NSPC, NFOT due to ‘Chedeng’
THE Department of Education (DepEd) has rescheduled the National Schools Press Conference and the National Festival of Talents due to typhoon “Chedeng” (international name: Maysak).
In an announcement on Twitter on Thursday, DepEd said that rescheduling the activities is in the “interest of safety of the participants.”
“We appreciate your utmost understanding for the inconvenience in the interest of the safety of our participants,” DepEd said.
The NSPC will be moved to April 13-17 from April 6 to 10 while the NFOT will be moved to April 8 to 10 from April 9 to 13.
The NSPC is a five-day workshop and competition in the elementary and secondary levels on print, broadcast and digital journalism. The 2015 NSPC will be conducted in Taguig City with the theme “Empowering Resilient Communities Through Campus Journalism.”
In an earlier statement, the NSPC serves as a venue for “enriching learning experiences for students interested in pursuing journalism as a career.”
Article continues after this advertisementMeanwhile, the NFOT will feature on-the-spot essay writing contest, jingle writing, Population Quiz, poster making and singing contest among high school students. The 2015 NFOT will be conducted in Makati City.

According to the state weather bureau’s 11 a.m. bulletin on Thursday, Chedeng packed maximum sustained winds of 175 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 210 kph.
It is expected to make landfall at the Eastern Coast of Aurora by late Saturday or early Sunday. AC
