6 hurt as bus avoids bicycle rider, falls into canal in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines—Six persons were hurt on Wednesday morning when a Ceres passenger bus fell into a canal in Barangay (village) Mansilingan, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Bus driver Junjun Lumantang, 37, was trying to avoid a bike rider that swerved in to the path of the bus that came from San Carlos City to Bacolod about 8:30 a.m.

As a result, the bus fell into the canal, said Senior Inspector Jeovel Sedel, Bacolod police station 7 chief.

Biker Celedonio Bayles, 75, suffered minor injuries when he fell on the ground after losing his balance on his bike, said Sedel.

Five bus passengers were hurt and complained of body aches, he added. SFM/AC
