While securing the people this Lenten season, Philippine National Police officer in charge Deputy Director General Leonardo Espina called on all 150,000 members of the police service to reflect on their responsibilities as public servants they had committed to when they joined the police force.
“In this season of Lent and sacrifice, let us take the time to renew our faith in God and renew our commitment to ourselves and the Filipino people; and in reforming our organization,” Espina said in a statement on Wednesday.
Interior Secretary Mar Roxas earlier said 63,000 PNP personnel have been mobilized to secure the public during Holy Week.

For Catholic policemen, Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr., PNP spokesperson, said they relinquish their comforts to commemorate Jesus’ sacrifice before death until His resurrection.
“Maybe this Holy Week, we could forego our social drinking, recreation like watching movies in malls, and indulging in food, to honor Jesus Christ’s suffering,” he said.
Espina also urged policemen to “internalize and pledge individual commitment and support” to the PNP’s Patrol Plan 2030 dubbed “our peace and order agenda for transformation and upholding of the rule-of-law.”
“Nothing can get in the way of the PNP’s desire to introduce change and completely reform the organization in all aspects of administration, operations and individual performance,” he said. IDL
