MILITARY units in Luzon were placed under red alert mid-Wednesday in anticipation of Typhoon “Maysak” (local name “Chedeng”).
At a press briefing, Armed Forces chief Gen. Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the units under red alert are:
– AFP’s Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom)
– Southern Luzon Command (Solcom)
– Central Command (Centcom)
– Joint Task Force National Capital Region (JTCFNCR)
The units were placed under red alert at 1 p.m.
Typhoon Maysak is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility by late Wednesday or early Thursday. It is seen to make landfall on Saturday in the eastern part of Central/ northern Luzon.
The rest of the unified commands of the AFP are on blue alert status.
The Disaster Response Operations (DRO) teams under the units on red alert status are placed on standby to support the local government and the Office of the Civil Defense for possible humanitarian and disaster relief missions in areas that would be battered by the typhoon. AC
