President Benigno Aquino III on Wednesday said he would be staying in Manila during the Holy Week to monitor Typhoon “Maysak.”

Aquino, during a broadcasted interview in Batangas, said he would be in his official residence in Bahay Pangarap in Malacañang to monitor the situation, especially if the state weather bureau declares Maysak a super typhoon.

He said he might head to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo if the situation would need his utmost attention.

Aquino said Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo told him that the strength of the typhoon, which will be named “Chedeng” once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility, is “almost” at the level of a super typhoon. However, Montejo advised him not to call for a special meeting since the regular NDRRMC meeting will suffice.

The President said he asked Montejo to always keep him posted.

As for his Cabinet members, Aquino said, “You don’t need to push them to do their job.”

He said relief goods have already been prepositioned while ships will be prevented from sailing based on the advise of concerned government agencies.
