Thousands of passengers going to the provinces flocked to various bus stations in Metro Manila ahead of the Holy Week celebration.
Around 8,000 passengers packed the Araneta bus station in Cubao, Quezon City on Tuesday. The number of passengers is expected to increase as the holiday break nears.
Ramon Legazpi, manager of the Araneta bus station, said that a two percent increase in the volume of passengers have been recorded compared to the same time in 2014.
Security for passengers and within the vicinity of the terminal was also tight.
Police Senior Insp. Mario Manipon said police have beefed up their security measures and have augmented their personnel.
Legazpi also said that closed-circuit television cameras were also installed at the terminal to monitor passengers’ safety.
He said the volume of passengers is expected to surge on Wednesday, the last regular working day before the four-day holiday.
Medical teams were also deployed in the terminal to monitor passengers’ health condition.
Jolly Olivera, a medical officer of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), said their medical team is on standby for any health concerns of passengers. RC
