Ateneo team hailed Asia-Pacific champ in 2015 CFA Research Challenge

A TEAM from the Ateneo de Manila University won the ninth CFA Institute Research Challenge Asia-Pacific Regional and will advance in the final round of the competition which will be held in the United States.

The team, composed of Sarah Jane Cua, Jose Enrique Fausto, Shaun Wesley Que, Jayhan Regner, and Kyle Jemmric Velasco, bested 20 other teams to be hailed as the Asia-Pacific champion.

The team’s winning entry is a “buy” recommendation on Concepcion Industrial Corp.

They each won a trophy, a CFA scholarship and certificate.

The team’s victory marked the third time that a Philippine team was declared the Asia-Pacific regional champion in the said competition.

After being hailed as the Asia-Pacific champion, the Atenean team will face five other teams in the finals which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 17, 2015. Their opponents hail from University of Melbourne; Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development; National Taiwan University and Thammasat University.

They have proven their superior analytical, report writing, and presentation skills, as well as their commitment to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct,”President and CEO of CFA Institute Paul Smith said.

Speaking for the team, Fausto thanked their families and mentors for their support and offered their win for their university and the country.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge, which started in 2006, seeks to promote best practices in business research among the next generation of investment professionals. AU
