Estrada, son differ on Poe-Lacson team

MANILA, Philippines—The Estrada father and son have opposing views on the tandem of Sen. Grace Poe and former rehabilitation czar Panfilo Lacson who are being urged by retired military and police officials to run in the 2016 presidential elections.

In an interview after the 108th Araw ng San Juan celebrations on Friday, where Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada was the guest speaker, the former president said that the Poe-Lacson tandem is “a good combination.”

However, Sen. JV Ejercito did not share the same view as his father, dismissing the tandem as something that is only being “floated” to the public.

“If they can resolve the 2004 issue. If that can be resolved,” Ejercito trailed off. “We all know for a fact that Ping’s candidacy for the presidency had been a huge factor. He did not support [Fernando Poe Jr. despite] President Erap asking him to unite.”

In the 2004 elections, then Senator Lacson pushed through with his candidacy and ignored Estrada’s call to support the elder Poe, who was the standard bearer of the Koalisyon ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino, to which the former president’s Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino political party belonged. Jovic Yee
