Billion-peso CHED research launched
MANILA, Philippines—Stalled and questioned for the past two years, a billion-peso international research project to be funded by the Philippine government was finally launched on Thursday at the Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) in Diliman, Quezon City.
The Philippine-California Advanced Research Institute (PCARI) project was acclaimed as a five-year “capacity-building” partnership between Philippine and American universities to be implemented by the CHEd.
The seven initial researches under the PCARI project are between the University of the Philippines and the Ateneo de Manila University, and between the University of California (UC) Berkeley and the UC San Francisco, dealing with information technology and health and medicine.
In her speech at the PCARI launch, CHEd Chair Patricia Licuanan said the PCARI project would “give Philippine universities access to the high-end expertise and laboratories of the University of California.”
