It’s final: SK polls deferred to 2016

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has signed into law a measure postponing the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to October 2016.

Republic Act no. 10656 or “An Act Postponing the Sangguniang Kabataan Elections to the Last Monday of October 2016” was signed by Aquino and transmitted to Congress on March 25, Malacañang said Thursday.

The law amends Republic Act no. 9164 and synchronizes the SK polls with the barangay elections next year.

The implementing rules and regulations of the new law shall be promulgated by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. welcomed the signing of the law.
