MANILA, Philippines—The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay on Thursday said he was “humbled” by the continued support that he received from Filipinos as he was hailed the second most trusted government official as shown in a recent Pulse Asia survey.
In a statement, the Binay camp said that the results of the survey, which was conducted from March 1-7, 2015, only showed that the Vice President was able to withstand the corruption allegations hurled against him.
“VP (Jejomar) Binay is humbled by the people’s trust, considering the intensity of the lies and personal attacks against him,” Binay’s spokesperson Joey Salgado said.
He also said that the continued trust of the people was an affirmation of their belief that he could lead the country come 2016.
“He is equally thankful that the people acknowledge his capability to lead the nation in 2016 with integrity, competence, and compassion,” Salgado said.
Binay has continued to top opinion polls as the successor of President Benigno Aquino III when his term expires in 2016.
According to the March Pulse Asia survey, Senate President Franklin Drilon received the highest trust and approval ratings with 44 percent and 49 percent, respectively. Binay trailed after Drilon, receiving a trust rating of 42 percent and an approval rating of 46 percent.
Aquino’s approval rating nosedived, incurring a 21-point loss, from November’s 59 percent to this month’s 38 percent. RC
