A 35-year-old public school teacher, who was set to get married in May, was robbed and shot dead Friday in Commonwealth, Quezon City, by motorcycle-riding men.
Cheryll Bonifacio, a Grade 1 teacher at Commonwealth Elementary School (CES), was ambushed on her way home around 11:30 a.m. on Tabigo Street.
Bonifacio had just left a house that was “pawned” to her for P100,000, though she was yet to get payment from a certain “Paloma,” according to a witness to the shooting.
She was walking together with a fellow teacher and a pupil’s parent when she was shot in the face twice by one of the bike riders who was wearing a face mask.
The shooter then took her black shoulder bag before escaping, said Chief Insp. Rodel Marcelo of the Quezon City Police District’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit.
The bag reportedly contained P10,000 in cash that was meant for the gown her mother will wear in the wedding, Marcelo added.
Fellow CES teacher Angelo Felipe described the victim as one of the school’s best teachers who trained pupils and helped them win in regional and national math competitions.
