Courts tackling tax raps vs Jeane Napoles determined

MANILA, Philippines–The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) has assigned the tax evasion cases of Jeane Napoles, daughter of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim-Napoles, to its First and Third Divisions.

The First Division is composed of Presiding Justice Roman G. Del Rosario as chairman and Associate Justices Erlinda Piñera Uy and Cielito Mindaro Grulla as members. On the other hand, the Third Division members are Lovell R. Bautista as chairman while its members are Associate Justices Esperanza Fabon-Victorino and Ma. Belen Ringpis-Liban.

In September 2014, the Department of Justice (DOJ) approved the filing of tax evasion case against the young Napoles.

Based on the DOJ resolution, the younger Napoles is liable to pay P17.887 million basic tax deficiencies broken down as follows:

·         P17,461 million for the residential condominium in California for taxable year 2011 and

·         P426,866.67 as co-owner of two Pangasinan farm lots for taxable year 2012

The case against Napoles was filed only on Tuesday (March 17).

Prosecutor General Claro Arellano explained that it took time for the DOJ to file the case because of the voluminous attachments to the case.

He also said they assigned the case to another prosecutor because the original prosecutor handling the case passed away last year.
