Junjun Binay wants Roxas et al cited in contempt over city hall ‘commotion’
MANILA, Philippines — Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “JunJun” Binay is set to file a petition to cite certain parties in contempt Tuesday afternoon.
Claro Certeza, Binay’s lawyer, said the filing at the Court of Appeals at 2 p.m. was in connection with Monday’s incident which saw “hundreds of policemen” barging in the Makati City Hall grounds despite the 60-day temporary restraining order on the serving of the suspension order against Binay issued also on Monday.
“Because yesterday (Monday) what happened was the TRO was already served and everyone was already quiet and went about their usual business when suddenly we were surprised and the hundreds of policemen arrived as if there was a commotion here. And the first thing they did was barricade themselves by the main entrance below that’s why we were concerned ,” Certeza said.
He said the petition would be filed against “all responsible parties” including Interior Secretary Mar Roxas and Senior Supt. Elmer Jamias, Southern Police District director for administration and ground commander in the city hall grounds.
He said whichever was done first– the issuance of the TRO or the posting of the suspension order in the Makati City Hall–was “irrelevant.”
