A funeral home agent cheated death after a gunman opened fire on him on Saturday morning in Marikina City.
Romeo Mejos, a funeral agent of Prestige Funeral Services, was hit by just one of seven bullets in the stomach. He was taken to a hospital where he was reported to be in stable condition.
Mejos was standing outside the firm’s office on J. P. Rizal Street corner Majestic Street in Barangay Concepcion Uno, Marikina City on Saturday morning when a motorcycle-riding man fired upon him at 11:24 a.m.
According to Insp. Jayson Andres, Police Community Precinct 6 commander, Mejos ducked inside the office and ran although one of the bullets struck him in the stomach.
This was not the first attempt on the victim’s life, Andres said, adding that in 2013, Mejos was also shot by motorcycle-riding suspects. He suffered a gunshot wound in the body from which he fully recovered.
Andres said that this time, the 45-year-old victim was on his cell phone when one of two men wearing camouflage jackets and motorcycle helmets and riding on a black-and-blue motorcycle with a still-to-be-determined license plate suddenly stopped in front of Mejos and shot him.
He added that they recovered from the crime scene seven casings and a slug from a cal. .45 pistol.
The victim told the police that the motive for the shooting may be work-related. He said that the attack two years ago came three weeks after he resigned from a funeral services company. The recent attack, on the other hand, happened two weeks after he quit his job at another funeral home.
The victim claimed that the suspects may be jealous of him since he has a lot of contacts in a hospital in Quezon City.
