Tropical Storm ‘Bavi’ may intensify to typhoon on Wednesday
MANILA, Philippines—The approaching tropical storm may intensify into a typhoon when it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday morning.
The tropical storm with international name “Bavi” was last observed 3,760 kilometers east of northern Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Once it enters the PAR, it will be locally named “Betty.”
“The tropical cyclone is still too far to affect any part of the country. It is expected to intensify into a typhoon before entering the PAR by Wednesday morning,” Pagasa said.
Bavi packed maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 100 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 30 kph.
