Transactions at Makati City Hall normal but ‘slow’ amid Binay suspension

MANILA, Philippines–Office transactions at the Makati City Hall remained normal on Friday amid the suspension of Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.
Strict security precautions, however, were enforced within the city hall premises.

“May security precautions being taken kaya medyo strict. But offices are open,” Joey Salgado, spokesman of the Binay’s camp told INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Supporters of the suspended mayor, meanwhile, continue to gather at the city hall while waiting for the suspension order of Binay to be served.

Salgado clarified that only court operations in the city hall were suspended upon the order of city’s executive judge.

The city hall was heavily guarded by security officers. Entry doors were closed except for one.

Speaking during a press briefing, Salgado asked for the indulgence of the people, saying transactions were a little “slow.”

Elevators transport people up to the 17th floor only. The mayor’s office is on the 21st.

Mayor Binay remains holed up in his office, saying he won’t leave the city hall while waiting for the court’s decision on their request for temporary restraining order.
