CEBU CITY—The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) in Central Visayas has suspended the safety certificate of a vessel of the firm 2Go Travel after it rammed into a docking area of Pier 1 here on Tuesday.
Lawyer Jose Cabatingan, regional Marina information officer, said MV St. Sealthiel cannot operate until the damage has been fixed and an inspection has been done to ensure its seaworthiness.
He said the suspension order doesn’t apply to other vessels of 2Go Travel.
The vessel, which came from Tagbilaran City in Bohol, rammed into the docking area of Pier 1 around 8:25 a.m. on Tuesday.
Maneuver control failure
In a statement, 2Go assured that the company would shoulder the medical expenses of the injured passengers.
The vessel, which was carrying 113 passengers and 11 crew members, suffered “maneuvering control failure” while it was docking at Cebu Pier 1.
The vessel hit a portion of the port that is the designated berthing space for roll on-roll off vessels of Cokaliong Shipping Lines and is about 50 meters from the berthing space for the 2Go vessel.
