Trillanes on Binay Jr.’s suspension: ‘It’s far from over’

MANILA, Philippines — “It’s still far from over.”

This was Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV’s reaction on the suspension order against Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Jun-Jun” Binay Jr. over the allegedly anomalous Makati City Hall 2 parking building.

“That’s welcome news for all those with us in this fight to weed out the corrupt. I laud the fact-finding team of the Ombudsman for their integrity and dedication,” Trillanes, who initiated the parking building probe at the Senate, said in a text message on Wednesday.

“That said, we shouldn’t put our guard down. It’s still far from being over,” he said.

Trillanes described the suspension order by the Office of the Ombudsman a “legal and moral victory.”

“It is a legal and moral victory. It proves that our allegations have basis which is what we’ve asserted all along,” said the senator.

Trillanes believes that Binay’s father, Vice President Jejomar Binay, “will have his day in court.”

The Vice President has also been charged in court in connection with the alleged overpriced parking building and other alleged anomalies committee when he was still the mayor of Makati City.
