EXTRA TANODS SOUGHT

A MANDAUE City councilor is proposing to increase the number of barangay tanods in the city.

Councilor Demetrio Cortes said the additional tanods should be deployed in strategic areas in the 27 city barangays to help prevent crimes.

This will reinforce police efforts to maintain peace with tanods acting as a “force multiplier,” he said in a proposed resolution.

MAN JAILED FOR MAULING GIRL

A 23-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for allegedly mauling his underage girlfriend in barangay Labogon, Mandaue City.

Police said Roel Plaza had not gone home since the alleged mauling last month.

Plaza was spotted by the girl’s mother around 4 p.m. last Tuesday in the barangay. She brought him to the police.

Insp. Stephen Amamag-id, chief of the Basak police, said the mother went to the police station yesterday and showed little interest in filing charges against the man.

MAN SHOT IN TALISAY

A 49-YEAR-OLD man was shot and critically wounded by an unidentified gunman in barangay Candulawan, Talisay City, southern Cebu, last Wednesday night.

Raymundo Jadraqui was shot in the forehead while walking home.

An empty shell of a .45 pistol was found in the crime scene.

The victim was rushed to the Talisay City District Hospital then transferred to a hospital in Cebu city.

Investigation is ongoing to determine the motive of the killing and identify the assailant, said police./CORRESPONDENT GABRIEL C. BONJOC

BOY FOUND DEAD IN CONSOLACION

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy was found dead in a vacant lot in barangay Poblacion Oriental, Consolacion town, northern Cebu, last Wednesday night.

The boy may have been strangled based on marks around his neck, said police.

He was last seen alive having a drinking session with friends in a KTV bar.

Based on the police records, the boy had been involved in petty crimes in the barangay.

The boy’s friends will be invited to shed light on the incident, said police.

In barangay Pajac, Lapu-Lapu City, a 52-year-old laborer was found dead in a bunkhouse of a construction site.

Eusebio Villasardo was no longer breathing when he was found by his cousin Maximo Pabriga, also a construction worker, at dawn Thursday.

The man was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital where he was declared dead.

The man may have died from hemorrhagic pancreatitis, according to a doctor who examined the victim at the hospital.
