Kidney patient asks for help

MANILA, Philippines—For 30 years, Dolores Bundalian battled diabetes.

“I took insulin religiously to control my blood sugar only to find out later on that my medicines would destroy my kidneys,” the 64-year-old resident of Bacolor, Pampanga said.

From the time she was diagnosed seven years ago with end-stage renal disease, Bundalian has been undergoing hemodialysis at the Hemotek Renal Center in San Fernando City where she temporarily lives with her nephew.

“We’ve run out of resources. My children have families of their own. My husband is old like me, that’s why we’re asking for help from strangers,” she said.

According to her, she has to spend P48,000 a month for her twice to thrice weekly dialysis sessions which cost P3,000 each, including injections.
