MANILA, Philippines — Government forces killed a communist rebel in Bukidnon on Tuesday during pursuit operations after last Sunday’s attacks in one of the towns in the province.
Soldiers from the 10th Scout Ranger Company led by Second Lieutenant Jayvee Santiago were on tracking patrol when they engaged the rebels in Kipolot in Palacapao village in Quezon town at about 2:25a.m., said Armed Forces Eastern Mindanao Command spokesman Colonel Romeo Brawner Jr.
The firefight lasted for about 30 minutes and government troops also recovered three high-powered firearms including two M-16 rifles and one AK-47.
The military said the rebels were responsible for torching down seven cargo trucks in BUDA road of the same town last Sunday.
The rebels are known in extorting businessmen and ordinary motorists plying the Bukidnon-Davao Highway.
