MANILA, Philippines—Malacañang on Thursday said it was confident that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will stop any armed insurgents that aim to disrupt the peace of the country.

This came after a breakaway group of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters was formed, the Justice for Islamic Movement.

Secretary Herminio Coloma of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said the AFP was up to task in monitoring and stopping the armed insurgents.

“The AFP is doing their responsibility to track down and monitor the movements of armed groups, especially those who want to spread terror to our country and society,” Coloma said on Thursday in a press briefing.

“They will not be allowed to conduct any actions, and the AFP will stop them.”
