Today, March 5, is the 78th birth anniversary of National Artist for Theater and Literature Rolando Tinio. A playwright, thespian, poet, teacher, critic and translator, Tinio was born in Tondo, Manila, in 1937. He received a total of nine prizes in the Palanca Awards for Literature. Tinio was also named one of the Ten Outstanding Young Men in 1967. He died on July 7, 1997, at age 60. Marielle Medina, Inquirer Research
