MANILA, Philippines–The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Monday warned the public against people who are soliciting money for supposed help for the families of 44 police commandos killed in a clash with Moro rebels in Mamasapano, Maguindanao province, on Jan. 25.
In a statement, Director Carmelo Valmoria, NCRPO chief, said his office was not soliciting financial support for the families of the 44 Special Action Force commandos who were killed during an operation to arrest alleged terrorists Zulfikli bin Hir, alias “Marwan,” and his Filipino deputy, Basit Usman.

The NCRPO is also not soliciting help for the survivors of the Mamasapano clash.
According to Valmoria, the Philippine National Police has set up an account with Land Bank of the Philippines—the PNP Special Assistance Fund Account—for cash donations.
He said Chief Insp. Renante F. Pinuela of the PNP Directorate for Comptrollership was the “designated authorized person to be contacted for any inquiries.” (0917-270-5533 and 0917-857-6026)
Valmoria urged the public to report to the police people who solicit money and ask that it be deposited in “unauthorized” bank accounts, and give “unauthorized” phone numbers.
