Burning of Marwan’s hut questionable, says De Lima
MANILA, Philippines — The burning of the house of terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir aka Marwan was meant to derail or obstruct ongoing investigation, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said Monday.
“Most probably it was deliberate (burning) and if it was deliberate, who did it and why,” De Lima said.
“Whoever did it can be charged with obstruction of justice,” De Lima added.
She pointed out that the investigation is ongoing. Even the Board of Inquiry was not able to visit Marwan’s hut due to the presence of members of Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in the area.
“The timing of the burning of the hut was also questionable since it took place after the BOI headed by Police Chief Supt. Benjamin Magalong went to Mamasapano,” she added.
The DOJ chief said they might include in their probe the burning of Marwan’s hut though she said such an incident would not hamper their investigation.
De Lima earlier directed the joint task force to finish their probe on the encounter and submit their findings to her office within 60 days.
