Free MRT tickets await lucky riders

/ 12:32 AM September 30, 2011

Lucky commuters will be able to ride the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) trains on Edsa for free today (Friday).

Pru Life UK, an insurance company, said it would celebrate its 15th anniversary by giving away the tickets.

Booths will be set up at the MRT’s Taft, Ayala, Shaw, Cubao and North Edsa stations where 75,000 tickets will be distributed to passengers.  This makes up about 16 percent of the MRT line’s daily average ridership of 450,000 passengers.

“There will be allocations for both morning and afternoon commuters, and tickets will be given away until the supply lasts,” the company said.

“Public transportation holds a significant role in our urban lives,” said company president Antonio de Rosas. “As we celebrate 15 years of service, we want to do something that would make us reach not just our policy holders but the public in general. This is Pru Life UK’s way of sharing its blessings.”

Government employees were also given free MRT and Light Rail Transit (LRT)  tickets  Thursday to mark the 111th year of the Civil Service Commission.
