Jolo Revilla’s gunshot wound self-inflicted

MANILA, Philippines—Cavite Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla’s gunshot wound was self-inflicted as confirmed by family lawyer Raymond Fortun and talent manager Lolit Solis.

Acting as the family’s spokesperson, Fortun on Saturday evening released the official statement of the Revillas on the incident: “At 9 a.m. today at Ayala Alabang, Vice Gov. Jolo Revilla suffered a single gunshot wound on his right chest after he accidentally fired a .40 Glock handgun while cleaning the same.

“VG Revilla is currently under observation and medication at Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa. He will remain in the hospital for at least the next 48-72 hours. The Revilla family asks for prayers for his speedy recovery.”

Addressing rumors that Revilla attempted suicide, Fortun said, “it was self-inflicted because he was cleaning his gun. It was really accidental.”

Revilla remains at the intensive care unit of the Asian Hospital and Medical Center in Muntinlupa City after sustaining a gunshot on the right side of his chest.

According to Fortun, the government-issued gun was accidentally pressed by Revilla and the bullet pierced through his right chest and “went out back.”

The Muntinlupa Police has also confirmed the self-inflicted shooting incident but said it happened at 8 a.m. on Saturday: “[Revilla] was brought to Asian Hospital in Barangay Alabang for treatment on his wound in the chest which was accordingly self-inflicted by unknown caliber of firearm.”

However, the Muntilupa Police said the Revilla family was “secretive” in providing more details on the incident.

In a statement read over dzMM Teleradyo also on Saturday evening, Solis in an interview said Revilla was confined due to a “self-inflicted wound.”

She also said the family thanked Revilla’s girlfriend Jodi Sta. Maria for being present at his bedside.

Revilla in an interview before the shooting incident said Sta. Maria “was going through something” and he didn’t want to add to the problem.
