Customs officer suspended by Ombudsman for neglect of duty

/ 02:45 PM February 27, 2015

MANILA, Philippines–The Office of the Ombudsman has suspended a Bureau of Customs (BOC) employee after she was found guilty of simple neglect of duty.

Suspended for three months without pay is Jocelyn M. Estigoy, BOC Operations Officer III of the Port of San Fernando, La Union

The case stemmed for her failure to verify the authenticity of the Certificate of Eligibility, which Norsk Hydro (Phils.) Inc. (Norsk) submitted.

Due to her “failure to give proper attention to a required task or to discharge a duty due to carelessness,” Norsk was able to evade paying the proper taxes, the Ombudsman said.
