The Wiggles bid for Princess Beatrice royal hat
SYDNEY—Popular Australian children’s entertainers The Wiggles have entered the bidding race for the flamboyant hat worn by Princess Beatrice at the British royal wedding.
The colorful quartet want to bring the headwear Down Under, and joked that they may give it to cricketer Ricky Ponting to wear when he next bats against England.
“We wear some pretty crazy costumes on stage but this hat beats them all,” blue Wiggle Anthony Field was quoted as saying in the Sydney Daily Telegraph Wednesday.
“If we win, we might give it to Ricky Ponting to wear when he bats against the Poms (England) next time.
“It would certainly distract the bowler.”
The princess, the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew and a granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, has put the Philip Treacy creation on online auction site eBay, with bidding currently at £18,400 (about $30,000).

The 22-year-old princess is using the notoriety of the hat, which generated almost as much publicity as newlyweds Prince William and Catherine Middleton, although much of it highly critical, to offload it.
Observers compared the creation to a toilet seat and a giant pretzel, and it has inspired its own Facebook page, “Princess Beatrice’s ridiculous royal wedding hat”.
