CAMP SATURNINO DUMLAO, Nueva Vizcaya, Philippines — A Department of Justice prosecutor here died on Monday under circumstances that placed his death shrouded in mystery, police said.

A report released by Supt. John Luglug, Nueva Vizcaya provincial police director, said prosecutor Samuel Dacayo was found bloodied in one of the rooms in his parents’ house in Barangay Roxas in Solano town at 10:30 a.m., with two bullet wounds in the head.

Dacayo died while being taken to a hospital in Solano.

Police said their initial investigation showed that Dacayo’s wife and his mother were working on a court motion that sought to reset the prosecutor’s trial appearances on Monday when they heard a loud thud coming from one of the rooms on the second floor of the house.

Luglug, however, declined to say whether Dacayo was gunned down or took his own life, saying an investigation has just started.
