MANILA, Philippines – There is definitely no restiveness in Philippine National Police that may lead to a plot to unseat President Benigno Aquino III over the Mamasapano debacle, its spokesperson said Tuesday.
Despite losing 44 elite policemen in a police operation allegedly guided by the President, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr. said there is no need for the PNP to check the loyalty of its ranks as all PNP members are “professional enough.”
“We have standing directives to the men and women of PNP. We know that our people are professional enough not to be swayed by these illegal movements,” he said.
“We are confident enough that PNP personnel will abide by their sworn duties, that’s why we don’t need loyalty check.”
Earlier Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin confirmed the intelligence reports Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago received that a “wealthy man” is funding a destabilization plot against the President.
But Gazmin said the military remains loyal to Aquino.
On Monday, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV linked Norberto Gonzales, national security adviser and defense secretary of the Arroyo administration, to the coup plot.
The PNP said it would continue monitoring ouster plots and threats to peace and order.
“Generally we monitor all these things without mentioning any name or group, we are duty bound to monitor. If there’s a violation, we will file cases.
