MRT passengers ‘fall like dominoes’
MANILA, Philippines—Some passengers of a southbound Metro Rail Transit (MRT) “fell like dominoes” after the train abruptly stopped twice Tuesday morning, an Inquirer executive said.
“The safety handle which I was holding on and shared by another passenger broke due to the force of the brake,” Connie Kalagayan, corporate communications chief of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, said. “Some passengers fell like dominoes.”
Kalagayan was among the train commuters told to disembark at the Santolan station around 10 a.m.
She said the train took two sudden brakes between GMA-7-Kamuning and Santolan stations.
The MRT command center confirmed the train was hit by a technical problem. The agency said the offloading of passengers is part of a standard protocol whenever its trains experience glitches.
