LUCENA CITY—The Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command celebrated its 28th founding anniversary on Thursday with its officials vowing to continue working for peace in the Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions.
“After 28 years, Solcom moves forward to making more peace efforts in its regions by creating strong bonds with its stakeholders, building up communities and bringing the services of the government closer to the people,” said Maj. Gen. Ricardo Visaya, Solcom commander, in his anniversary message.
“Peace is no longer a dream but a reality easily imaginable with Solcom and its stakeholders,” he said.
Solcom, which was activated on Jan. 1, 1987, is based here in Camp Nakar. Lt. Gen. Hernando DC A. Iriberri, commander of the Philippine Army, was the guest of honor in the celebration.
During the anniversary program, 12 soldiers were awarded for gallantry in combat and efficiency in administration while seven civilians were recognized for their partnership with the military in bringing peace and development in Southern Luzon.
Solcom presented its accomplishments last year, claiming to have captured 18 top leaders and 112 regular members of the New People’s Army in Southern Tagalog and Bicol regions.
