MANILA, Philippines – A 5.7 earthquake struck off Eastern Samar at 9:29 p.m. Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the quake that centered 104 kilometers northeast of Mercedes town in the Eastern Visayas province.
It was felt at Intensity IV in Mercedes and Intensity III in Llorente, also in Eastern Samar.
The undersea tremor occurred at a depth of 47 kilometers.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
