MANILA, Philippines—Cancer-stricken Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago has requested that she be given more time to ask questions during the ongoing Senate investigation on the Mamasapano incident.
“This is to respectfully request, if necessary, for extra time when I interpellate as reserved on the SAF massacre this Thursday, 12 February, starting 10:30 a.m,” Santiago said in her letter on Tuesday to Sen. Grace Poe, head of the Senate committee on public order.
“My reason is that other senators who already interpellated in the first two hearings will be participating for the third time. By contrast, I will have only one opportunity because of my illness,” she said.
“Because of cancer pains, I will be unable to return to the hearing if it is further extended,” Santiago added.
The third hearing of the Senate is set on Thursday.
Members of three committees inquiring on the incident are only given five minutes each to interpellate the resource persons.
